Local Unions
Located nationally across North America, NULEA Local Unions and members are the heart and backbone NULEA. NULEA, unlike other labor unions, is structured to promote strong local with strong leaders. NULEA retains their own expert labor attorneys, certified public accountants, full-time business agents, organizers, and clerical staff. The members of each local elect their own officers, devise their own structure, and vote on their own bylaws that are compatible with the National Constitution and Bylaws. While enjoying their independence, the Local Unions benefit from the expertise and assistance of NULEA, and of the various conferences within the Union's structure.
The National Union supports its local unions with:
Coordination of national contract negotiations, political action, and organizing;
Providing training and educational programs for NULEA officers, Business Agents, Stewards and Members;
Advice and assistance from experienced organizers, negotiators, researchers, attorneys, auditors, and communication specialists.
Elections
Elections of officers for the National union office are typically held once every three years. The next NULEA election will be held in the fall of 2011.
Affiliations
Each affiliate is unique. NULEA offers two options for Locals to Affiliate:
Standard Affiliation
The Standard Affiliation provides: access to the many benefit programs of the NULEA. Affiliation offers access to National, State, County and Local Labor bodies to allow affiliates to become politically vocal, legal, political and technical guidance is offered to assist affiliates in developing a plan that will aid in aggressively winning power and addressing your particular grievances.
Full-Service Affiliation NULEA offers a FULL-Service Representation Program to affiliated Locals. This program provides attorney and business agent services to assist with matters such as grievances, contract negotiations, collective bargaining, disciplinary hearings, and mediation. An attorney is also available to members in emergency work related incidents such as, shootings. This program also includes all of the benefits of the STANDARD AFFILIATION. NULEA supplies newly organized Associations with a model to establish and operate as a strong union. NULEA offers legal and technical support to guide each local in developing a program that will aggressively win power and address grievances.
